ESD safety shoes or antistaic safety shoes (ESD - Electrostatic Discharge) refers to an electrostatic dissipative technology used in some safety shoes to provide continuous drain of static build-up into the ground in order to protect sensitive electronic components like computer chip , or to provide a safe level of electrical insulation to the body, should workers come in contact with dangerous amounts of electricity. Electrically efficient shoes or ESD shoes feature dissipative soles that discharge the accumulated static generated by the rubbing of the soles against the floor.
